Walls
Retaining walls are walls that hold back - or retain - slopes.
There are many, many examples of this on our website, since we frequently work
on mountainsides. Here we present some that were designed for the specific task
of holding up flat spots both large and small.
Native stone work looks better as
time passes. It lends an established presence to a landscape and properly done
is permanent.

Rock Walls
I like to build walls that achieve their strength by the fit of the stones. Well fitting stones also have the timeless look of careful craftmanship. That enhances any property. Native stone wals complement both shady, mossy places and colorful, lively flowerbeds. Combining native stones with other natural materials creates an interesting look.
Curving rock walls are some of my favorite to build and I love how they look.

In the mountains, sometimes
steep slopes require tall walls. This wall supports a nice turn-around for a
mountainside residence.
Walls that we have constructed in this
fashion have proved to be very durable and blend with the surroundings.

Sometimes boulderfall arrangements can be used to present a natural mountainside appearance and become rock gardens. An attractive effect can be achieved by laying big stones in a tight bond. We cut these blocks for a big retaining wall 23 feet high. Massive material likethis is necessary when building large stone structures.

Quarried granite slabs can make a nice
low wall, like this one created for a flowerbed, if attention is paid to the
finish on the slab. By the way, granite makes fine benches that last forever.
