Waterfalls in the
Landscape
Waterfalls in the landscape create magic. Any landscape can be
enhanced by falling water. Natural falling stream water is what comes to mind
when we envision an intimate mountain scene. Our falls are 100% Green Design
Rainwater Harvest Systems.
Another benefit is less glamorous but almost more desirable -
the sound of falling water blocks out noise. This effect alone recommends the
use of a waterfall in many settings.
Fountains, falls and flowing streams come in many varieties in
landscapes. Natural appearing ones are by far the most difficult to build well.
Green Thumb Arts Natural Landscapes designs and builds waterfalls that mimic
nature so well that the observer accepts them as natural. Click on links below

Wild landscapes dominated by flowing and falling water are
soothing and unique.
Below are just some examples of how you can add a waterfall
as a major component to your landscaping.
As water falls it creates a cool moist breeze Birds love to bathe in the shallow pool at the top of this waterfall. Building a waterfall for this exquisite bronze heron added interest and ctivity to an otherwise boring lawn. The crag of the falls provided a great anchor for neighboring flower beds. This waterfall can been enjoyed seen from on the ground or up above with a bird's eye view from the deck. An attractive effect is gained by including a waterfall cascading over this necessary retaining structure in full view from a home's dining room picture window. Falling water drowns out the noise from a road that crosses the top of the structure. This 12 foot tall waterfall originates in a minutely detailed planter built into the deck support at the entryway to this home. Hidden behind this waterfall is a hot and cold shower, complete with its own drain. When falls are created in a stream bed setting, a landscape can be made to truly mimic nature only if proper care is taken throughout the entire process. Moving a granite bench for a restful spot to gaze at this waterfall was easier done by boat!
Good design and construction practices allow us to arrange patterns in realistic mimicry of nature across scales ranging from large boulders to small plants. Properly done, a waterfall is a smashing focal point in a natural garden. Nothing can compare to the beneficial presence of falling water.

Miniature waterfalls can create some of the best details
available in natural landscaping. They also rank as one of our very favorite
features. Some of their many versatile strong points are these - they fit almost
anywhere, they surprise and delight, an amazing impact can be made by a small,
well-crafted installation, birds and critters love them, and best of all they
invite your imagination into a vividly patterned and scaled world. Below are
some examples of creating miniature waterfalls to add that "special touch" to
your home.
Using gnarled roots and specimen stones, it is possible to create the foundation for plantings of mosses, lichen, ferns and wild plants that grow streamside. Little structures or other models help accent scale and playfulness. This small warm waterfall ties the hot tub to its landscape, which incorporates many falling water features.

The volume of water cascading over the
waterfalls we create can be adjusted to suit different moods and conditions. Low
flow creates a quiet, serene mood.

Falling water in wintertime can shape some fantastic ice
sculptures.
We design for year round waterfall enjoyment. Water falls all year in nature. We can ensure it will for you too. Water in Highlands in the winter is particularly beautiful, existing on the borderline between liquid and solid. Careful planning nad execution are necessary for a pumped system to withstand winter's rigors. A well built hot tub can extend the enjoyment of a garden into the depths of winter.
